The Arctic Tern may well be the world’s greatest navigator. With an annual migration circling the globe beginning in its northern breeding grounds, then along a winding route that crosses oceans and continents, ending in Antarctica and returning for a round trip of 44,000 miles (71,000 km) each year. The tern relies on instinct, perseverance, and incredible strength to successfully navigate the most treacherous environments.
